How Often Should We Update?

As some of you may know, I serve at a local church as an in-house web developer on top of my responsibilities in music, graphic arts and the like. I started working at this church back in February 2004 and had their new website up within 4 months or so. That site lasted us all the way until the end of last year when we rolled out our latest edition [ www.PCCToday.com ].
Now, it’s just a few months into the new design and with new leadership here at the church that I serve at, there’s a good chance we may look to move forward on yet a newer design. (Don’t quote me on that…but I envision and secretly hope to look at some new ideas in the short and long-term)
My take? Hey, I love designing and exploring new ideas. Over the years, I’ve grown tougher skin and find myself much more willing to take constructive criticism these days as I strive to get better at my craft. Humility is a good thing to have otherwise creatives can sometimes implode with their own bloated notions of superiority. I like thinking that no matter what I create, I can and will create something even better next time.
The one thing the process I find myself in does do is beg the question - “How Often Should We Change A Site?” Should it be every 5 years? Every 3 years? Every year?
I love change so I may not be a good one to ask since my mind moves on to the next idea pretty quickly once one idea has been realized.
Anyone have any feedback?
