As a faithful Apple user it is rare for me to have any negative thing to say about the folks at Apple but there is a recent story that affected me this week. Apple just released the new iLife ’08 and after watching the Steve Jobs video, I couldn’t wait and purchased the software bundle primarily for the wonderfully improved iPhoto but also for what I saw as an equally improved-upon version of iMovie. While iPhoto has met my expectations and then some, iMovie left me scratching my head.
Gone is the incredibly useful timeline and I realized too late that I now can’t do some of the finer editing items like changing film speeds and controlling volume levels. The more I looked at it the more I saw a program that was not an upgrade at all but rather a completely new and significantly less-powerful application.
Apple! What’s the dealio?!
There is good news. It looks like Apple was listening to a bunch of very upset users and they’ve now made iMovie HD 6 (the previous “useful” version) available as a FREE download for those of us that installed iLife and had the iMovie program completely “updated” (inaccurate word). If you, like me, installed iLife ’08 but now regret the loss of iMovie HD – do not fret.

Apple – I still love ya.
