Internet Explorer 7 Beta 3 Released

As my readers know, I am NOT an IE browser fan…BUT I’m a realist who knows that as I do web design, IE is still the primary browser of most of the people who use the sites I design. For you designers out there, here’s a recent Beta 3 announcement and download. A good practice for designers is to test all your sites in all the browsers available so it would be good to get a head-start on the next release of IE and download this beta and add it to your testing process.

RSS Icon Standardization

What?! Microsoft Internet Explorer playing nice with the other kids in the playground? I came across this official Microsoft blog from the designers of IE and was aghast to read things like “we met with the makers of Mozilla”… Well, it appears to be true. As I get my breath back, the important thing about this is that there looks to be a standard icon for RSS features on the websites that will be part of the next generation of IE (version 7).

Icons: It’s still orange

My last post shared some of our conceptual designs of the feed icon and expressed some of the criteria that we are using to select the right icon. Firefox and the Impending Release of IE7

As a web tech professional, the topic internet browsers is one I’m constantly monitoring.  I presently have gone almost exclusively to Firefox and the few extensions I’ve added which has helped speed up my workflow.  I was a pretty faithful Safari user (Mac OS X) until recently because Firefox works best in all environments (including those annoying ASP sites that work hard at NOT playing nice with all non-IE browsers).

So, IE7 is coming out soon.  As a Mac user, I honestly couldn’t care less.  I wouldn’t use IE if someone paid me to.  But, I realize many still are stuck on IE and more don’t even realize there are other better (and safer) browsers out there available for FREE.

Here’s an article from one of the original creators of Firefox and his thoughts about the next release of Firefox (Firefox 2.0) and the coming release of IE7.  This is a great look at the basic differences between the two and yet more reasons why the Firefox approach is the BEST approach for all users.
